Is your body still on guard? Take the one-minute Body Check-In.

Ten plain-language questions about what your body is telling you. Free, private, and not a diagnosis.

For each statement, choose Rarely (0), Sometimes (1) or Often (2). Then add up your points.

1. My mind feels calm, but my body stays tense or on edge.

2. I startle easily or feel jumpy for no clear reason.

3. I sometimes shut down, go blank, or lose the thread of a conversation.

4. I go along with people or keep the peace even when I don't want to.

5. After stress, I feel drained and it takes a long time to settle.

6. I have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, or I wake up already on alert.

7. Parts of me want different things, or I don't feel like the person I used to be.

8. Reminders of the past can make it feel like it is happening now.

9. I've talked about what happened, and my body still reacts the same way.

10. It is hard to feel at ease in my own body, even on a good day.

Your score (out of 20)

0 to 6: Mostly settled. Your body seems to be finding its footing. Stress still shows up, and that is normal. A few simple habits can help you notice early when your body is gearing up.

7 to 13: Your body is carrying something. Several of your answers suggest your body is holding on to more than your mind is. Many people in this spot have done years of talk therapy and still feel it physically. Body-based work, including EMDR, is built for this gap.

14 to 20: Your body is working hard. Your answers point to a body that is on guard most of the time. That is exhausting, and it is not a personal failing. You don't have to sort it out alone, and a paced, step-by-step approach can help.

This is a starting point for reflection, not a diagnosis. Only a licensed clinician can assess what is going on for you.

What settling can feel like

Warmth or heaviness, a yawn or a deep breath you didn't plan, tears, feeling tired after a session, or a sense of space where tension used to be. Setback days can happen too, and they are worth mentioning to your therapist.

If you are in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988 (in the U.S.) right now.
